IADR February Contest Entry

Alrighty everyone. I'm actually already most of the way through sculpting the torso, not bad for me and my procrastinating ways! So the theme for IADR's February Contest is "Art Of The Soul". So I've decided to do the most evident emotion for me....all of them! My piece will be called "Freedom in Madness" and will feature a fierce female lycae (werewolf) during her first freeing of her beast! I think the piece may be a bit frightening, but as I see it she's being freed of her torn emotions and allowing her rage to become bliss!

I'll post pictures as it comes together or at least once I have a head sculpted.

Dragon Hatchling...almost ready for pics!!!

The dragon hatchling is now completely sculpted and I'm pretty certain this is the last layer of paint this little cutie is getting. After the wings and paint are cured and the baby has had a little freezer time (adding strength), I'll grab a few pics to share.

As I said it's a dragon hatchling, also called a dragon pup. It's not anatomically correct, so he or she is up to you! The pup's color is mainly red and black, but there's some blushing that's purple/blue/brown. The eyes are still sealed shut and the scales are premature, a lot like a freshly hatched baby bird. The wings are small and a little transparent.

I really really like this little one and I'm having trouble with the idea of parting ways with it! This dragon hatchling is so adorable!

So I've busy working on my Little Moon Nursery website and making babies for the nursery! But today I decided I wanted to do a dragon hatchling for Valentine's Day! So the hatchling will be seriously fresh from the egg. Her eyes not yet open and her scales still premature giving a baby bird sort of effect! Because I want her to be for Valentine's Day I've decided her colors will be red and black.

I just finished sculpted and adding her first layer of paint, and she's firing now. I'll be taking a break for coffee and a snack, then I'll work on giving her a cute little curled up body..wings and all! Check back for pics of her.

Arctic Mermaid...

Finally a new mermaid! She's about 7" long (if stretched out). Painted with an oil/chalk/bond mixture and glazed with lacquer and glitter. Tibetian wool in baby blonde for her hair. She's the Arctic Mermaid and here's the link to her auction and a slideshow. Enjoy.

Seraphine is finished!!!

Here are a few photos of Seraphine all finished up. She's about 10" tall on her base and just breathe-taking. Her hair is handset red, brown, white, and blonde viscose fibers twisted into dreads with fabric stiffener. She has tiny pearls throughout her hair. She's playing with floatastic kelp! Her tail is painted a shimmering golden orange and her side fins are posable.

The name I've given this fiery goldfish mermaid is Seraphine, meaning buring fire. She's coming along nicely. She'll need arms, hands, and a neck sculpted and painted then she'll be ready for hair and accessories. Here are are few pics of her progress.

Yesterday I added bulk and sculpted the torso and most of the tail. Today I added a little more bulk to her tail to even her up and sculpted her head. I used lovely reflective pink pearl beads for her eyes, gives an eerie but breathless appearance. I also added a bit of genesis paints to the face to give her a more realistic skin tone. Then blushed her cheeks and lips to add some color. Finally used some orange, skin tones, and browns to add depth and a stormy goldfish effect for their eyes.

I'll be adding progress photos in a little bit. I'll also be finishing the tail, fins, and ears this evening.

I've just started on a new mermaid. My vision is to have a beautiful sunkissed mermaid kneeling in the sand taking in the sunrise! Her body in a subtle, but sexy upright pose with one hand (at least, maybe both) tangled in her lovely hair. Again this is my vision...but these things often change as my work comes together. Since she is to be a sunkissed mermaid her tail and fins will probably be very warm colors. We'll see.

I begun bulking up her armature last night and will likely take a few photos of that this evening before I start working on her again. I'll try my very hardest to take lots of progress picks and post them.

International Merbabies: Ravana, Ningyo, and Madeline

Lovely 2.5" merbabies on circular bases. Ningyo is representing the Japanese mermaid featuring wispy black hair and a unique koi or dragon like red and black tail. Madeline is representing the Dutch mermaid featuring blonde hair and a sparkly green tail. Ravana features thick black hair and a glitterly blue and purple tail and she represents the Indian mermaid. All of the merbabies are one of a kind,sculpted from Premo clay, and hand painted with Genesis paints. Picks coming soon...

New Happenings!!!!

To begin I've decided to create a seperate website dedicated to my Dainty Dragons collection. These Dainty Dragons will resemble my first sculpt "Mindle" and come in a wide variety of colors, materials, poses, and so on! I've actually started this collection off with the creation of "Flutterfly" a baby FaeDragon and he's currently for adoption on ebay (search zaos or daintydragon). Tails and Fins....butterfly wing template use...

I've started experimenting with the idea I had for the fins on future mermaids and maybe fish and sea dragons using butterfly and dragonfly templates. I've made two copies of the butterfly wings (on ivory vallum paper). Then I've added I little more color to the wings with watercolor pencils. I then mixed up a bit of silver acrylic paint with gallery glass and painted a generous layer over the wings. Waited a few hours for the mixture to dry completely then laid the two sheet over eachother and cut equal boxes around the wings. I added some crazy sticky (clear drying) glue to the bottom side of one sheet, spread it into a thin layer, and lined the edges of the wings as best I could and let them dry. I laid a heavy book over the two sheets to ensure the edges would not curl. Once dry I trimed the wings out of the sheet and rearranged on a mermaid's armature to see the butterfly wing fins in action (two different positions). I am overall rather happy with the outcome.

WIP: Faerie Infant (5-6")

I don't have an exact measurement on her yet, but if her feet were extended she'd be around 5-6" long. I started working on her yesterday, but didn't have enough hours in the day to finish her up so I'll probably finish sculpted and painting her today and then work on a cradle base for her.

I was so inspired by all the May babies on ebay, so decided I'd try my hand at a May baby and a larger baby. So far I like her, she's got a content resting expression and she's definitely a chubbers but I do love a "healthy" baby! I'm debating on what kind of base she'll be in. Tree nook or blooming may flower...or maybe a mix of the two!!! We shall see.

WIP: Mermaid Child and Critter Friend(UPDATE..friend pics)

Here are the newest photos of Rosalyn and her little friend. He's a weddell seal pup named William. He has one layer of genesis, but I'll likely add another layer of beige to even out the first layer and add texture. So that's how far I've gotten this morning. I only have a few "sculpting time" hours today, as I need to go to the spa and salon today to get ready for my buddy's wedding tomorrow. Here's the pics anyway (dark cloudy day, so dark cloudy pics...sorry).

WIP: Mermaid Child (UPDATE..first pics)

Another mermaid. This one is a child (around five years old in appearance) with a critter friend.

Only two pics to start, but it'll give you an idea of what's in my head. She'll be sitting where she is on the branch (which is far from finished) and her little critter friend will be at the other end. She also has collected a name.....Rosalyn. It seemed to fit her features, plus she'll have a rose colored tail and fins. I believe she'll have strawberry blonde hair, maybe with rose colored highlights. Not certain on that yet! I'm thinking a weddell seal pup would be a great friend for her, they're fur is kinda of a pinkish beige when their pups.

I'm going to try finishing this up by Sunday, but my best friend's wedding is on Friday and hopefully my hubby and I will be celebrating our anniversary this weekend. So we'll see how much time I have to sculpt between today and tomorrow! Wish me luck.

WIP: Mermaid Child

Another mermaid is in the works. She'll be 6"-7" from tip of tail to the top of her head. Her name will be Rosalyn, meaning little rose! While her skintone will not be blue, she'll have a very icy skintone non the less. She'll be in a sitting pose atop a branch and she'll also be with a little friend, likely a sealion or seal. We'll have to see where this goes! Wish me luck.

I'd like to set my "finish by" date on Sunday, but my buddy is getting married on Friday and my hubby and I will hopefully be celebrating our anniversary this weekend so we'll have to wait and see. I may get her finished before I leave, but I don't want to rush.

Merbabies: Baby Blue Fin, Silverfish, and Bass Baby

I've just finished up the third of my "merbabies". I love these little beauties! Silverfish was the first and she came out a little larger then I wanted, but still a cutie. Her tail is aqua blue and silver.

Baby Blue Fin was the second and he's the size I'd like to keep these little cuties at. His tail is light blue and super sparkley.

Finally there was Bass Baby who's my Mother's Day gift for my Bass Crazed momma! Bass Baby's tail and fins are painted to resemble a large mouth bass' colors and markings. The bass is a pen holder too!

WIP: Mermaid at the River's Edge

I know, I know. It's such a rarity to see me actually sticking to the same project rather then working on five or six mini projects at the same time. So here's the latest pics of our mermaid. She's, as promised, donned with a muted blue skin tone. The pics are done on a glummy day, so the flash made her look much shinier then she is. I've decided to give a very strong silvery gray tail and a long flexible torso. She's still undecided if she'll actually be an avatar inspired mermaid, but either way she'd certainly fit into the movie. I've decided she'll also be a more sharkish mermaid rather then the typical wet and wild beauty. She'll still be posed in a very tender pose and have a lovely face (as lovely as I'm capable of), but she'll have gills covering her rib cage and a fierce presence. It'll be like a watching the most fierce creature of nature embracing a tender moment. I hope anyway!

So here's the pics for today. A covered armature, very rough sculpting.

WIP: Mermaid at the River's Edge

I'm actually not certain whether this mermaid will be another "River Spirit" (Pandorian Mermaid) or simply a seriously cold-water mermaid. Either way her basic skin tone will be a light steel blue. As you can see from her WIP (work in progress) pics she's in a launging pose with one arm delicately touching the water beneath her resting branch. Her head will be tilted downward to allow her gaze to follow her hand.

As I'm working on her she'll probably let me know whether she'll be another AVATAR inspired mermaid or a cold-water mermaid! Follow and see. Here's a few of her WIP pics (7" armature with bulk). Her armature is 7" tall and once her fluke (tail fins) are added she'll have an extra inch or two).

She's approx. 3" long. She's hand sculpted from Premo Sculpey and hand painted with acrylics. The color palette used includes metallic purple and periwinkle brushed with a shimmering ivory. She has a magical appearence and is cute as a button! Particularly cute for a dragon hybrid (1/2 dragon, 1/2 fae). She'll have a neat cradle base shortly, I'll post pics shortly.

The first two pics below are Lillian prior to firing and painting. The pics do absolutely no justice to the serenity of this little creature.

WIP: Avatar Fae or Fairy "the Avii"

I started sculpting this little fae yesterday afternoon. She's started as a 5" armature (thanks Fairytasia) bent into this sprinting position. She's now putting on some clay weight, premo sculpey. She's just getting started so I'll be investing an hour or so over the next few days working on her. When she's finished she'll be an Avii, a Na'vi fae or fairy. Her wings will be removable to suit the interest of the collector. Here are a few of her very early pictures.

WIP: Adult Dragon (more details and back feet)

So I've decided to stick with a major theme amongst dragon lore. That dragons consist of three types of animals...eagle, lion, and reptile. I've also given this a touch of an aquatic tail, also doubling as a very defensive knife like weapon. Hope you enjoy it so far. WIP: New Adult Dragon (WC#0039)

I've started another dragon last night, just an armature so far. This dragon will be an adult, not a youth or baby like I typically make. It'll stand approx. 5" tall, 6" from front to back, and 4" from side to side. Like I said I've started this guy with a really sturdy armature wrapped in tape to add bulk and make the clay stick better. I used a 18 gauge steel floral wire and 1/2" duct tape to make the armature. The dragon will have winged forearms and taloned back legs. Those are the only factors that I'm actually certain of at this point. Here are a few pictures of the armature or skeleton for this dragon.

Little Bat Dragon: Progress

The little bat dragon is fired and awaiting paint. I've just finished her cave base. The base stands 4" tall and is 5" across the front and 3.5" to the back. This is a really good size base for a pretty good size dragon. Here's a few pics so far.

This morning I woke up and looked out my bedroom window. Well with no glasses on everything was pretty blurry. As I looked out the window an image started to take shape in the tree branches, of course it was just like looking into the clouds and seeing shapes especially without my glasses. So the shape became a little bat like creature with large wrapped wings and long pointed tail. Big cutie pie eyes and hanging upside down. Now I know it was just my imagination and the lack of vision, but I found the focus of my next sculpture...the little bat dragon!

"Vigilant", avatar inspired fan art....another baby

Introducing another baby Na'vi (avatar inspired fan art). The piece is called "Vigilant" because of the baby's alert little expression. He's a little more stretched then past babies. He's approx. 2.25" long and the base is approx. 2.5" long. He's sculpted from Premo and painted with acrylics. The base is constructed from geniune leather, green moss, river rocks, feathers, glitter, and colored sand. He's super cute. The pics do him no justice.

"River Spirit", avatar inspired fan art

This is a Pandorian river spirit inspired by the AVATAR movie, but not a character in the movie. The SkyPeople, or humans, would refer to this creature as a Pandorian Mermaid. She is on an attached base and is very approx. 4" x 4". She's sculpted from Premo over a wire armature and hand painted with acrylics. Her hair is viscose in midnight black and not molded or sculpted, so the style can be changed. She's on ebay this weekend. ebay id: eclypse21jen

Lizard Dragon (custom) Finished

Well after a base material dry spell, I was finally able to finish this guy up the way I wanted to. The base is about 4.5" x 2" and the lizard is about 3.75" long. Great colors, very realistic skin texture and tone. Hope the owner likes him as much as I do.

Sreu'ite WC#0031 "Alive": Finished

Well after playing with her base color several times I've finally worked it out. I finished sculpting Sreu'ite last night, and painted her this morning. Shortly after I constructed a nifty little base from wood, leather, green moss, rocks, and faux foliage. I arranged the rocks on the base to give her buyer the optimal ability at removing and returning her to her base with ease. Getting those positions on bases just right can be tricky, trust me I know! Anywho. Sreu'ite has been hand sculpted, no molds, from Premo and hand painted in layers to reach her final skintone. Her hair (head and tail) is hand set midnight black viscose. Her appearal is made from owl feathers and hemp string. Her hair has a hemp string decorated with tiny owl feathers. I'm actually quite pleased with the way she came out. She's lovely and lively.

Sreu'ite WIP WC#0031 (Head Applied)

Still having camera issues, but better some sloppy pics then no pics right! I've given her a head today and will likely work on the arms and hands tonight (my least favorite part...I stink at fingers and toes). She resembles Mo'at a bit I think, more so in the regal and chiseled jaw structure. Ok so I couldn't stay away from the blue people! I made one other avatar baby, a tiny little guy with huge anime eyes! But this WIP is a little bit of a challenge for me. She's going to be an young adult na'vi named Sreu'ite. I've sculpted her torso and legs this evening. Probably not with the care I should have, but that's why I stopped there and decided to finish the rest tomorrow or the next day. She'll probably be approx. 3.5" to 4" off her base (sitting position). I have no clue what sort of base I'll make for her yet, we'll see. So here's a few rough pics of her for now. Sorry my camera quality is terrible.

Emma Rose (Dragon Hybrid Baby) WC#0030

Alrighty I've gone through a few dragons this week and then there's the avatar babies, and I thought to my self about combining the two. I remember seeing a few simiar babes in and around forums I poke my head into now and again, but there's not that many of these little hybrid babies! After finishing this little girl up...she quickly became my absolute favorite sculpt to date. The photos distort the colors (a bit to light) because of the metallic paint, but she's still the sweetest little dragon hybrid baby. She's about 3.5" on the base and about 2.75" on her own. She is removable from the base and I've gotten the river rocks arranged such so that she can lie in two different positions. She's a deep metallic red and a blueish purlple. I've called her Emma Rose, she needed a name! So here's the pics of her. I may list her on ebay or faebae in a day or two, we'll see.

I'm happy to say I got back around to making another baby dragon finally. This is a little sea dragon and it's approx. 2" long alone and 3.5" long on it's base. The dragon is hand sculpted, no molds, and hand painted with metallic acrylics. The wings are also hand sculpted from the same clay, Prosculpt. The base is constructed from a plank of wood, spanish moss, and faux folage all painted with acrylics.

I've also sculpted another super tiny avatar inspired baby. This one is about an 1.5" long and has an "anime" appearance to it. The baby is hand sculpted and painted. The base is about 2.5" long and constructed from wood, green moss, and faux folage painted with acrylics.

"U Rock" WC(SE)#0026 ... valentine turtle ... last of 2010

This sculpt will be the last "Valentine Special Edition" from ZAOS this year, only three were made (my creepy valentine, my valentine matilda, and u rock). This sculpt is called "U Rock" and features a "emo" boney turtle and a few unique rocks atop a wooden base . "U Rock" is approx. 2" tall x 3.5" long. The boney turtle and the rocks are hand sculpted by J. Razoux from Super Sculpey Firm then hand painted with an acrylic palette of greens, browns, black, and ivory. Absolutely no molds were used in this sculpture's creation. The wooden base is a set of small 100 year old barn planks and is hand painted (acrylics) dark brown with splatches of mossy green, black, and light brown. The bottom of the base is marked with the "ZAOS". The turtle's shell displays a patched up heart. The bunch of rocks is unique in that one of the rocks is shaped like a heart. The single rock in front is unique because the rock has "U ROCK" etched in it, this further adds to the valentine feel of the piece and basically gives the art it's name as well.

"Pandora's Box"- Preemie Na'vi Baby WC#0025(Avatar inspired)

This will likely be the last avatar baby I do, the clay's ready to move on again. The piece is called "Pandora's Box"...why!? Because one it's a box...and two because the world that Avatar takes place in is called Pandora. I darken the little window box and placed a Na'vi "nest" (painted faux folage and moss)into it.

This little Na'vi sculpt is a preemie baby girl. She's about 2" long and very detailed. Her hair is hand painted as well. She is created from Premo Sculpey and painted with acrylics. Super cute litte girl. Here's the link to her auction:

Fun with Ava: Baby Doll Repaint- Avatar

So Ava, my three year old daughter, agreed to allow me to put the newborn Na'vi from "Wild Peace" on ebay in return for her very own Avatar baby doll. We decided to use one of her trash destined baby dolls (an old beat up Berenguer doll) for the project. So now Ava is probably one, if not the only, little girl with her own baby Avatar/Na'vi doll! The doll is completed repainted to resemble the Avatars from the AVATAR movie. We may replace the eyes or paint them eventually. Here are the pictures of Ava and her new baby doll.

So here's the pictures of the Newborn Na'vi sculpt on his base. I've decided to call this sculpt "Wild Peace" because it demonstrates how peacful the "wild nature" can be when left undisturbed. This little guy is about 2.75" long alone and 4" long x 3" tall including folage on the base. He's hand sculpted from Premo Sculpey and hand painted with acrylics by myself. I've also added black tibetian lamb wool for hair on his head and tail. The base is constructed from a piece of wood, moss, and faux folage hand painted with acrylics to add more bold colors. The AVATAR movie is what inspired me to make this piece...great movie btw...go see it!

Newborn Na'vi avatar movie WC#0024

This is my newest sculpt, a newborn Na'vi. For those of you who do not know what a Na'vi is, it's the native of Pandora from the Avatar movie. He's about 2.5" long and still needs a name and cradle base. He's a purely sculpted from Premo Sculpey polymer clay and handpainted with acrylics by myself. I also gave him black tibetian lamb wool at the tip of his tail and for his hair. My little girl is trying to stake her claim on this guy already, so we'll she if he ever makes it to ebay. If so I'll have to make her one of her own! So here are the pictures of the little guy.

She's a lot more wild looking then I had expected for her to be, but she's still very earthy. The sculpt becomes the what sculpt wants to be right. So I gave her the wild golden blonde hair crowned with a hemp string and owl feathers. Her dress is made of deep green and brown lace trim, golden beads, and more owl feathers (mostly fuzzies). I'm still debating on wings or no wings. I may make a pair and see if they fit her or not when I'm working on her base. So here's the newest pictures.

Element Pixie: Mali the Earth Element

Alrighty I've started creating the second of the four element pixies! Esen (Wind or Air Element) was first and this little cutie is named Mali. Mali means "rich", which I thought appropriate for an earth element pixie. She'll be approximately
2.5" tall on her wooden base. I finished sculpting and painting her today and will most likely continue on her a little more this evening and then again tomorrow afternoon. Now my camera is not cooperating with me today so the pics I took are fuzzy, but I figured some pics are better then none. Again the pics are fuzzy, but she has deep brown eyes and rosie cheeks and lips. She'll probably have golden blonde hair (viscose or tibetian lamb) and dressed in green, ivory, and brown garments. She looks like she's begging for wings, so she'll probably get those also.

Okay I so enjoyed making "My Creepy Valentine" that I started making the second scuplt like him. This piece is called "My Valentine Matilda" and she'll be approx. 3.5" tall once finished. She's created from Premo Sculpey and handpainted with an acrylic palette of ivory, white, red, brown, and dark grey. Her arms and legs are strong painted steel wire. This is "My Creepy Valentine". He's an adorable "emo" boney teddy bear with a heart pillow. The bear and pillow are pure sculpt from Prosculpt and Premo. Both are hand painted with an acrylic palette of black, brown, red, and ivory. The base is a small piece of 100 year old barn plank and is painted (acrylics) blackish red with deep red hearts. "My Creepy Valentine" is a little more gothic then my typical stuff, but hey I was having a bad week so I sculpted with my mood! I actually like him a lot and may do a few more Creepy Valentines before Valentine's Day.

Element Pixie: Esen the Air Element

Here's a little side project I started since the two heads (fairies) I was working on got too cold and started becoming brittle. A lesson learned, but a really great head lost. Anywho, I decided to make the elements: Wind, Earth, Fire, and Water. Not that they'll be completed one after the other, but I have completed the first the Wind or Air Element. She's a wingless pixie (for now) and her name is Esen, turkish for wind. She's approx. 2.5" tall and atop a wooden base (unfinished, I'll add some windish markings and color later). She's handsculpted and handpainted by myself, no molds used. She's embellished with a hand made flowy white dress with blue beads and a beaded crown. She's constructed from Sculpey Premo, painted with acrylics, her hair is hand set Mohair in red, brown, and deep blond. She's quite the cutie with her eager yet unsure expression and big blue eyes. Here are the pictures of her. I hope to take some better pictures later, because these do her no justice.

This actually worked better then I'd anticipated. I ordered some 4mm reflective acrylic beads (all sorts of colors) for multiple uses, from wings to jewelry. When they arrived it occured to me that they are the perfect shape, size, and colors for eyeballs in my small creations. That is where Nydis the childish sea sprite came from, he was my trial sculpt to ensure the beads would be oven safe! Low and behold he came out great. So I painted him up with some new painting techniques I learned and added my new nanobeads, plus a set of handmade cellophane tail fins! So with out further waiting, here is Nydis.

New toys for christmas!!

Well this was a wonderful christmas for me. Number one my children (including my husband) had a great christmas and got everything their little hearts desire, makes me oh so happy! Second, my family has me nailed! My mom gave me a portable photography box...lights and all! My dad gave me a dremmel tool kit...awesome! My mother in law gave me a Keurig coffee machine...neato! My Kathy and a few other family members gave me gift cards to Starbucks!

Another Mini Mouse Faerie...

Good Thursday morning everyone. I've decided to create a series of the mini mouse faeries, as they are just so darn cute! So here's photos of the second...a little girl atop a christmas gift. Her name is Anna, elvish for gift, and the entire piece is smaller than a quarter. Little Anna and her gift are both hand sculpted from polymer clay and hand painted with acrylics. Her wings and gift ribbon are brushed with glitter flecks to add the "magic" of the mouse faerie! Hope you all enjoy, and I'll add some photos of her before paint later.

Tiny Treasure!!

During another poly-tinkering session, this time with the kids, I created a tiny little toad stool (mushroom of sorts). So in turn I decided to go ahead and make a teeny tiny little mouse faerie to sleep atop the toad stool. The sculpt is firing now and I'll post the pre-paint pics shortly. The entire piece is less then an inch tall and less then an inch wide. The faerie is approx. 3/4 inch long. Details are okay, with practice and a magnifying glass I think I prefer this mini crafting. Pics coming shortly, stay tuned...

So here are the two faerie babies all finished up! I went for a very angelic (christmas and all) feel with these two little cuties. As far as species of faeries, one is a mouse faerie and one is a winter faerie. No names yet, any ideas?? Their both in feathery cloud cradle bases made from marabou feathers, celephane, and glass marbles. Both faerie babies are crafted with polymer clay and hand painted. Their wings are handcrafted with fun wire, celephane, and a few marabou feathers. Hope you all enjoy peeking at them.

Every so often in between projects or in the middle of them, to break things up, I just "tinker" with a ball of polymer clay! I like to call these l ittle creations "poly-tinkers", as they are my polymer clay tinkering projects!! Anywho. I've sculpted a few of these poly-tinkers in between Grandpa Buzzard and Grandpa Woof, so keep an eye out for those cuties and funnies.

Grandpa Buzzard's Base (leather and clay)

Well I've decided to make the old boy a hard wood floor base and decided it would have to be unique. So I used scrap leather laid over a small block of fired polymer and constructed a faux hard wood floor with a top level, mid level (like looking through the side of the floor), and a bottom level (like looking up from a basement in an old house). I think it makes this frisky old timer more unique and genuine.

Grandpa Buzzard (Day Two)

On day one I completed Grandpa Buzzard's head and most of his body. Today is day two and I've just cut the tubing to begin Grandpa Buzzard's feet, once complete I'll fire and paint the old fella! He's a heck of a character, I adore his facial expression and the movement in his body. He'll be wearing a crimson sweater with green or blue trim and the sweater will have a christmas pattern as well. Once he's completed and placed on his stand, I'll place him ebay for auction (if I can let him go) and get started on Grandpa Woof ( J. Alexander Woof, as I've decided to name him). Well today I began my newest projects, holiday sculpts with a twist. The next project is a series of sculpts starting with Grandpa Buzzard and Grandpa Woof. These two adorable, but cranky old men-critters will be between 3 in and 5 in tall and dressed as old men. Grandpa Buzzard will be a crazy old buzzard and Grandpa Woof will be a grumpy old shaggy dog. Both will be sporting their holiday attire. Avalos, the winter satyr.

So here's a little info regarding my WIP (work in progress), Avalos. He's a winter satyr, posed in a striking pose. Satyrs are shown as human from the waist up and goat-like from the waist down. Generally the fur is introduced as very shaggy and heavy, but with Avalos the fur will be neat and short showing his more masculine physique. The satyr will have a gray-silverish skin tone and appear to be shimmering with frost. His horns will be a tortoise color, not one hundred percent sure exactly how they'll look quite yet though. As I said above the pose he'll be in will be very strong striking pose (actually more of a pre-strike pose). Although the pose will be pre-aggressive, his facial expression will hardly be of alarm. Unlike many satyrs, Avalos is a smug warrior. So that is my vision in a very broad description. And that takes me to the first step in creating Avalos, making and posing an armature.

The armature I created was made using morezmore's techniques and an addition of my own flare. I purchased all of the necessary materials (not including the pliers, board, and wire cutters) from morezmore's ebay store. The materials used were:

1/8, 3/32 brass tubing

17 ga + 24 ga steel wire

scotch tape

needle nose pliers w/ wire cutters

wooden board

micro tube cutter

wood screws

Mr. Bones (8in) sheet
forceps

internet research on satyrs and satyresees

The process of making the armature is tideous, but very rewarding as the skeleton of your vision comes to life. So, after creating the armature I posed his and secured the brass modules (head, arms, legs) to the frame and used forceps to secure the position and create stablility until a base is created. Here's the end result of that process (Day 1).

This is Mindle, he is a dragon hatchling and was the very first of my creations with polymer clay. He was inspired from a trip to a local Rennaisance Faire and my visions of what a newly hatched dragonling would look like! My kids loved this little guy.

This is a couple sculpts into my sculpting path, a newborn harvest faerie. Sweet little guy is inspired by my little baby nephew, David, and the fall season. I just adore seeing the folage change colors and I invisioned the tiniest little faerie baby cradled in the autumn folage and that's where he came from.

First Day....Blogging Begins!

I imagine the best way to begin a new blog is to introduce myself and my blog's purpose! Yes, that is a good start. So my name is Jennifer Razoux and I'm happily married with two little munchkins that I absolutely adore! We, my family, also has a very naughty dog and two of the sweetest rats, yes rats, in the world. I have just finished up my bachelor's degree in HR Management, but jobs are a bit scarce right now so I decided to use my more creative side to help pay the bills! Anywho. So this past September I went ahead and gave sculpting clay a go and well...I thoroughly enjoyed it, and to boot I wasn't that bad at it. And that leads us to the present...I'm now beginning my ninth sculpt (using a morezmore armature technique I learned, plus my own flare) to create a satyr called Avalos.

So here is where my journal (blog) begins, with Avalos the Satyr. I'll post some pictures of my previous work and the inspiration behind them, but this blog truly begins with Avalos because he is inspired by my daughter Ava and my son Nevien. My children are very bouncy and mischievous, thus why they remind me the mythological satyr. Obviously the satyr I'm creating will be an adult and not childish at all! More to be said on that topic later. Enjoy the blog!!
